1. Make Your Own Reusable Sanding Blocks

You should make a sanding block for each sandpaper grit you will be using during your work. You can cut these blocks from ¾-inch plywood, and the dimensions should be 3-1/2 in. x 4-3/4 in.

2. Table Saw Safety

Whenever you are crosscutting on a table saw, you should enhance your safety measures by setting the cut length. This can be done by clamping a block of wood to the fence.

3. Using Stair Gauges as a Crosscut Guide

Although stair gauges are usually used to help with laying out stair jacks, you can also clamp them to a carpenter’s square in order to function as a guide for your crosscutting.

4. Use Tape as a Glue Guard

If you work with glue, you are aware that it tends to run. In order to guard against glue stains, you can use tape as a guard on the edges and in the joints.

5. Using a Drafting Square to Increase Accuracy

With most woodwork, precision is essential. Many woodworkers have discovered that using a drafting square can significantly improve the accuracy of the cutting process. Using a drafting square eliminates the cumbersomeness of working with a carpenter’s square.

6. Clamp Small Items with Hot Glue

There will be times when you will have to cut, file, shape or sand small items, instead of attempting to use clamps, use hot glue instead. You can usually pop it free with a putty knife when you are done.

7. Using Duct Tape to Mark a Level Spot

If you are working with a table saw that is on a mobile base, you will want to use duct tape to mark the level spot on the floor, so it will be easy to locate each time that you pull out the saw.

8. Forward Facing Hacksaw Teeth

When installing the hacksaw blade so that the teeth are facing forward. The saw is designed to cut on the forward stroke. Additionally, make sure that the bolts are adequately tightened, because the blade will expand when it gets hot.
